ABOUT ME
I’m a writer of fiction and nonfiction who lives in rural Northern California. In 2016 I exposed the financial shell game played by one of California’s largest skilled nursing providers that left local patients with substandard care. You can find that award-winning journalism here. A 2022 story which revisited this issue also won several local and state awards. In 2017 my cover story about the Hoopa Rodeo (link here) won first prize for sportswriting from the California Newspaper Publishers Association. Hey, that one surprised me! I’ve been writing about Humboldt County’s complicated relationship with our unhoused residents for almost a decade. Some examples here, here, and here. In 2020 I transitioned to writing more fiction, and had a short story, “Rest. Stop.” picked up by the Saturday Evening Post. My short story “The Hidden Places” appeared in the 2021 May/June issue of Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine. That story was nominated for the 2022 Shamus Awards.
I’m not using social media at the moment, but feel free to reach out using my contact page. I love shooting the shit about cute dogs, Murder She Wrote, history mysteries and all manner of nerdy things.
